What is HealthyStart?
Through a series of appliances, HealthyStart® targets symptoms of Sleep Disordered Breathing that often go undiagnosed and worsen over time. By addressing these issues early, the system helps guide natural, healthy development.
Nearly everyone! Individuals who begin treatment in their early years will benefit most. Here is an example of a patient’s experience:
A 6 ½ year old boy in 2nd grade snored regularly, was a night mouth-breather, was hyperactive, had attention deficit, poor school performance, restless sleep, aggression toward peers, sleep walking and talking, poor ability to study and bed wetting. He was given a Healthy Start “C” series and wore it only at night for 2 years. He immediately stopped snoring and only breathed through the nose while sleeping. His mathematics achievement had a 950% improvement (from the 6th to 57th percentile) and had a 3.84 grade point average (out of 4.0) at the end of 4th grade. Most of his behavioral problems were non-existent at the end of the 2 year period.
Prevention, Prevention, Prevention!
The HealthyStart system improves airway patency and decreases or completely eliminates symptoms of Sleep Disordered Breathing, especially if the system is utilized during the patient’s early years.
Complex problems identified during a patient’s adolescent and adult years can often be contributed to undiagnosed and untreated airway problems.

A sleep questionnaire is utilized to identify active sleep disordered breathing symptoms. Based on these findings, the Austin and Tatum team will develop a customized plan for your child.
